I am very much a "deadline or it doesn't happen" person, too. It's far from ideal, but at least you're making it work! I once read something where someone wanted to write a book but kept stalling out, so their spouse was like "if you don't finish it in six months I will donate a bunch of money in your name to your least favorite political candidate" and while it's not something I want for myself, I respect the process. (Also, I think if you're going to tie your mental health to anything sports related, Cal is a good choice this season!!)

oh my god, I can't decide if that would be effective or just torturous?? I do respect the creativity though

as usual I have about a million things I want to say in reply to this, but for now: I was *so* happy I got to see you, I'm *so* glad we finally watched Spinal Tap together (along with many other great movies), and I am *so* excited for St. Louis!!!!!!! oh and also "It takes as long as it takes is a saying for a reason, but also sometimes it takes as long as it takes because I’m a piece of shit!" I feel friendship obligated to say you're not a piece of shit but also the phrasing of this did make me snort laugh lol

I feel like surely the friendship obligation gets a pass if it's funny enough??

VERY excited for St. Louis, barely a month away now!!!!

I'll have to come back and read this fully later as i'm on vacation with my mom for mother's day. But I joked with Cath that I was going to give you something that said *sorry, i'm on deadline*, in St. Louis next month lol. So this post is making me giggle a bit! Congrats on turning in your draft, again!!

Needing a deadline is so, so relatable.

I am coming to learn I may actually be a drafter. This was unexpected because I started editing when I thought I was giving up on writing novels for good. And I love to edit other people’s work. But I’m starting to love revising mine too

Re: deadlines, I also have that adhd super fun habit of not hitting deadlines the more lax they get

Which is to say I get it, so a huge congrats for those revisions. The layout looks absolutely nuts and honestly you should be proud you did that absolutely incredible thing.

I am curious. If this one is 100k, and you were talking about it like a long book, how many words is The Prospects?

(Geez my keyboard immediately suggests “Prospects” when I type “The”—specifically uppercase T—and oh boy that is ridiculous I need a life)

Also because I am insatiable (and very sad that I can’t meet you and Alicia at her event bc I am broke and would need a plane ticket or a lot of gas), why St. Louis?
